COVID 19- Chaos and control porn for elites
We have to realize that wars, pandemics, disasters, crimes are food for the psychic vampires in the media. It is one thing to say bad news is news and thats the basis for their revenue stream. But at some point they actually begin to enjoy. Having met many media people they make feel very uncomfortable. Generally they are a sick people who may even get sexual high from suffering.
Similarly politicians feel important by doing something. In a truly free society, the best politician is someone who does as little as possibly. All this COVID lockdown is just security theater where the media and politicians are complicit as their relationship is symbiotic.
Governments and media are notorious for extreme reactions- either they ignore or dismiss or they overreact. The WHO initially dismissed the COVID hysteria emanating from China but later revised their opinion to scream PANDEMIC!!! This was supported by Neill Fergusson of Imperial College , London based on whose recommendations much of the lockdown occurred.
A few things to note- many people had corona virus in their system since 1970s. COVID 19 is a new strain. Those who were diagnosed with the harmless corona virus were declared COVID 19. And most of the people dying were either seniors or those with pre existing conditions. Hence most of the deaths recorded in Italy were those of senior citizens in a nursing home. Also as people realize from watching the wonderful movies of Coppola and Scorsese, the Italians are very touchy feely culture replete with hugs and kisses for every minor occasion which allows the diseases to spread quickly compared to say Germany and other Northern countries which have the virus under control.
People with authoritarian instincts who have no concern for the inconveniences of their citizens institute lockdowns because they wish to project power and a paternalistic protection. This is clearly a ploy which everyone can see through.
When all is said and done and within two months when it will die down with far fewer deaths than projected, hopefully citizens around the world will not only re evalute their relationship and dependence on China but also leaders, elected or otherwise , and whether they have their best interests at heart.
Notice how the U.S media responds to the possibility of the anti malarial drug hydroxycholoroquine promising results on treating the virus- they claim as dangerous unwarranted optimism. They do not want this to end. Consider how ghoulish that instinct is.
The good news on the media front is that the media is atleast in U.S is collapsing due to lack of ad revenue due to shuttered business. Let us hope it has a ripple effect across the world.

Coming to your post on COVID19, I really feel governments across the world overreacted by locking down entire countries and shutting down the global economy. This could have been averted had China not censored all the information during the early weeks but even then shutting down entire countries was insanity. Now unemployment will become a huge problem across the world. And this disease disproportionately affects the old. All young people need to do is to remain clean and hygienic and clean their houses and offices regularly. Instead, governments went overboard shutting down everything. Only Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore handled the crisis well and kept their economies open.
ReplyDeleteYes a huge overreaction based on some very questionable data from WHO. Modi of all leaders handled this in the worst possible way. There is simply no excuse.
DeleteThis is hurting us all. Shutting down entire countries is sheer insanity. All people needed to do was to wear masks/gloves, sanitize their homes, offices/workplaces and other public places regularly, observe social distancing (even 5-6 ft is good enough) and go about with their everyday lives while letting the virus run its course. Access doctors as and when needed.
