Why India doesnt function optimally?

I have seen various rationales for India sub par performance in pretty much every field (relative to its large size and impressive history) ranging from colonialism, socialism, rapacious capitalism, Hindu religion, Islamic dhimmitude ,plunder and psy ops warfare over population etc etc.

But all of these miss the forest for the trees. The main reason India is so horribly mismanaged is because Indian institutions whether Indian army, navy and air force, railways,  IAS, IPS as well most of the Indian bureaucracy ,media , elite universities is based on British models and these models were predicated on a foreign power exploiting India as a source of manpower, raw material ,money and other capital.

The British have left to be replaced by a "swadeshi" set of theives, crooks and incompetents who view the Indian populace irrespective of class, sect or caste as cattle to squeeze dry or if necessary sacrificed for their meat.

If none of these institutions function as to our satisfaction then we have indeed to ask the awkward question whether they were intended to function to benefit us. Alas the answer is :No!

As they say the test of the pudding is by tasting. So let us compare the performance of  prime ministers who were educated either abroad or in these institutions with that one person who wasnt: PV Narasimha Rao.who is considered the best PM of India.

I am not taking into account BJP PM's such as Bajpayee or Modi as they were technically educated by the RSS which was at worst a collaborator for British rule and at best a mute spectator. All the while espousing a nationalism which masquerades as religion which has its source in Garibaldi than any Indian counterpart.
.
In short India is a misfit for Indians. So why would Indians thrive in it?

Most post colonial countries suffer from this very problem but due to India's large size, population , complex history and diversity , the problems have been exacerbated.

The solution? Nothing more tearing each and every institution and reforming them from the ground up. And yes in this I include the Indian army which as I mentioned before is not a friend of the Indian populace simply because its current and former employer (the Indian government and the British empire) do not care about Indian interests. It always amazed me that Indians would hurl the choices of (well deserved) abuses at their government ministers but let the Indian army go scot free.  To my mind the Indian army is simply a glorified version of the Indian police whose heavy handedness towards their clients as well their inadequacy in dealing with law and order or terrorism is well known.

Such a bottom up and top thrown overhaul will be unpleasant , messy , there may even be .blood. As there should be . This brings us to another problem with our independence movment. By and large India was bestowed independence not due to the efforts of Gandhi , Nehru(hahaha) but simply because India once a source of revenue was now a bottomless pit of money ,man power and capital which Britain ill afford after WWII despite delusions of grandeur of Winston Churchill. Interestingly the British saw the writing on the wall even before the Indians such as Nehru and promptly gave Churchill the boot in the 1946 election.

The British practically gave India away to their underlings and being underlings they had no capacity for leadership and independent thought or backbone. The sad results are there for all to see.

Study after study shows that people who win lotteries are usually worse off than before because mostly because the type of people who buy lottery tickets are lacking in discipline, far sightedness and have poor impulse control. India was a lottery won by dimwits and spineless cretins who were in the right place at the right time. But the difference here is that the citizens of India pay the price while the vermin at the top continue to reap the benefits.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading ur article,so much that I spontaneously recommended it for my followers on twitter :) _/\_ https://twitter.com/jam2579/status/850920275935862784 U have nailed the problem, the free indian govt post 1947 is nothing but a continuation of the already existing structure, just with some extra truckloads of bullshit communism.Apart from democracy and some fundamental rights, the indian constitution is basically a british constitution in disguise, rather a british constitution meant for her own colonies. And Nehru neither had the will nor the acumen to deliver properly post independence.Add to that the fact that Nehru himself was a Britain lover by heart,as was even noted by Gandhi. So we got a real bad PM as our first ,for a post indep nation reeling with lack of everything.Btw regarding this issue of change in the fundamental structure of governance and institutions,SCB had drafted a model constitution, which he named "Azad Hind constitution",back when he had taken charge of INA in Myanmar(actually at that time he was pretty worried that in case his INA managed to reach Delhi, there should be no chaos due to the sudden change of governance,as that would make the fellow indians suffer). In this constitution ,he tried to give shape to a govt&governance that would be more suitable to the indic lifestyle, even he had made the observation that the first thing post indep india should do must be the remodelling of governance framework, for the benefit of all Indians.Your post here echoes the same thought SCB had.But anyway as i was saying, for a heavily diversified nation like India, the current constitution is not at all worthy.

YSV one more request, kindly block off all the fake accounts of spammer Amith Mishra, they neither look good nor match with the quality of your content.

    1. Thanks JAM, I apreciate the shout out. Despite Bose's socialist leanings, his approach would have better for India as he seems to have envisioned a thorough dismantling of the British system and create new institutions specifically with Indians in mind.

As for Amith Mishra, I believe his stupidity is obvious to all and should be seen. I did not take this approach with Milin Patel for example as he is not only stupid and immoral but utterly incapable of rational thought or intellectual honesty. His posts were utter poison and the intellectual equivalent of toxic waste which is why I removed them.
Amith Mishra's low IQ is actually rather amusing and harmless!

"Implies" "felt like" In other words you are reading your own views into what I wrote. As far as your comment on my mom is concerned, it just reveals your disgusting mentality... Just to insult me, you are dragging my mom into the picture... Well, I don't blame you for that as you are a Hindutva crackpot that idolizes Ysv Rao, another Hindutvadi who once said on his blog that had Vadakayil not been a captain, he would be selling peanuts on the street and his wife would be in a brothel... 10. I think Milin Patel has taken the news of captain quitting blogging very hard. Hence he is lashing out at those who he percieved are responsible for this such as JAM and yours truly. He even started stalking me on my disqus account and he to no ones surprise ended up doing something incredibly stupid and counter productive simply to air his own weird views.
On some conservative American site, some guy started talking about Sati and I said it came into prominence as we know it due to women wanting to avoid rape during Muslim conquests. Now our hero Milin comes and claims that Sati was always present and was a part of Hinduism. While technically true, this wasnt part of the discussion and the context being that sati was proof that Hinduism was intrinscially evil and this was made by some Eurocentric racist. Now by making this statement only due a spite against me, this idiot Milin Patel has yeilded the advantage to the white racist and on top of that aired our dirty laundry for the world to see
But then again what can we expect from a weirdo thinks that everyone should be free to lust after their family members?
Shame, self respect and dignity are alien words to him. Never common sense, facts and logic which are also in scarce supply considering he considers me a Hindutvadi LOL.

The reason I keep refusing to engage Milin Patel is because he is that special breed of idiot who imagines that being contrarian and controversial makes him smart. If you say the sky is blue, he will give a hundred rationales as to why it is actually red. There is no point in wasting time with such people.

    11. I see the captain being torn between two powerful but contradictory instincts. On one hand he feels he is incredibly knowledgable ,wise and brave and actually believes he is doing a sacred and noble duty by providing his distinctive brand of discourse. After all this is a guy who believes Modi got elected due to him and Putin learnt the HOlodomor from his blog and Trump was elected because he threw his support behind him earlier on in the election cycle.
On the other hand, vain and thin skinned that he is, his constant banning of people who disagree with him even on a minor level left him with only a shell of followers who are probably terrified of spamming all the websites with his contents as he commands as they fear they will be banned/ blacklisted. Add to this the ridicule and humiliation he comes across due to his increasing notoriety.
The followers are mostly gone but the stings and jokes from his detractors remain.
As of now the latter aspect is affecting the captain more so he is considering stopping. But his hunger for attention and adoration may prompt him to return.

I can think of only two possibilities here-
      a) Milin Patel is your average idiot PN Oak supporter but fears saying so openly
      b) He is thoroughly lacking in historical facts, analysis of evidence and even plain common sense if he even doesnt believe PN Oak but considers him credible enough to seek more info about his claims

    9. The first amendment simply states that the government cant prosecute you for your speech as long as it doesnt call for violence.

Of course any one who has unpopular views will be a social pariah and may lose his livelihood. But that is upto the company that hires him and the decision is at their discretion.
I doubt any one in U.S will care enough about the captain to punish his sons.
George W Bush White House spokesman Scott McClellan's father for eg. had some crackpot views about how Lyndon B Johnson arranged the assasination of JFK. Scott's response was simply that he doesnt agree with his father and this disagreement should be a private matter.
Generally in U.S they dont condemn you for the views of your relatives. Sure there will be some twitter mob outrage and calls to apologize but these dissipate in a couple of days and these online vigilantes move on to some next target.

To some extent 3 saints of india did fight against buddhism on an ideological ground, they are Adi Shankara,Madhavacharya&Chaitanya Dev.However i dont know how much of the proposition that Adi Shankara destroyed buddhism totally is valid, though he did fight against buddhists,on the ideological front.Because even long after Adi Shankara,Chaitanya Dev had to fight with buddhists who would otherwise have created a buddhist bengal ,if let alone. Also on a side note, much of the affinity to buddhism and islam among lower castes was fuelled by caste system within hinduism, something i found hindutva vadis are pretty uncomfortable acknowledging :) Because their sole narrative of islam being pushed into with swords would otherwise break away then.I have discussed this with many online keyboard hindu warriors on twitter, they are just like vadakayil, they would outright deny that anything bad was ever there in hinduism.the problem is that this denial doesnt make any historical sense(bhakti movement or accounts of the medieval literature),but then again online hindutva brigade or vadakayils never cared for historical sense.there goes my own perspective on this :) However for any historical question,u have a master in the form of YSV :) I am also eagerly waiting to know YSV's own perspective on this issue.

    2. @ jam I agree with on most parts what caught my attention about the article in the blog

“According to many scholars hostility of the Brahmanas was one of the major causes of the decline of Buddhism in India.”

Yuan Chwang’s account reads, “In recent times Shashanka, the enemy and oppressor of Buddhism, cut down the Bodhi tree, destroyed its roots down to the water and burned what remained.” [Watters II p.115] He also says that Shashanka tried “to have the image (of Lord Buddha at Bodhgaya) removed and replaced by one of Shiva”.

Even after the Islamic invasions of India, Hindu bigotry and hatred for Buddhists was not subdued. According to Sharmasvamin, a Tibetan pilgrim who visited Bihar three decades after the invasion of Bakhtiaruddin Khilji in the 12th century, the biggest library at Nalanda was destroyed by Hindu mendicants who took advantage of the chaos produced by the invasion.

He says that “they (Hindus) performed a Yajna, a fire sacrifice, and threw living embers and ashes from the sacrifice into the Buddhist temples. This produced a great conflagration which consumed Ratnabodhi, the
nine-storeyed library of the Nalanda University“. [Prakash, 213]. Numerous destroyed Buddhist shrines were converted into Hindu temples after their destruction

Similarly, at Kushinara, where the Buddha had entered into Mahaparinirvana, the cremation stupa had been converted into a Hindu temple, and on top of it stood the temple of Rambhar Bhavani when
Cunningham discovered the site in 1860-61.

And the famous Jagannatha temple at Puri in Orissa was also originally a Buddhist shrine.

Similarly, the Vishnupada temple at Gaya was also once a Buddhist shrine.” As Rajendralal Mitra notes in his famous work of 1878 [quoted in Ahir, 59] the feet of Buddha at Gaya were rechristened the feet of Vishnu and held as the most sacred object of worship in the new Vishnupada temple.

According to the records of Hieun Tsang and Kalhana’s Rajaatarangini, Asoka the great repented, converted to Buddhism (273-232 BC) and did a lot for Buddhism. Asoka renounced violence, and renounced his religion after the Kalinga war, and he became a Buddhist. During Asoka, Buddhism had become the state religion. The Brahmans did not like him, and many historians think the Brahaman opposition to Asoka led to the destruction of the Muyarian dynasty. contd............

    3. THE HINDU KASHATRIYA HINDU AND BUDDHIST WARS
Jawarhalal Nehru in his book Glimpses of World History says (Page 103 and 104) “Chandragupta proclaimed his holy war “against all foreign rulers in India. The Kashatriyas and the Aryan aristocracy, deprived of their power and positions by the aliens (Kushans), were at the back of this war. After a dozen or so years of fighting, Chandragupta managed to gain control over Northern India including what is now called UP. He then crowned himself king of kings. Thus began the Gupta dynasty. It was a period of somewhat aggressive Hinduism and nationalism. The foreign rulers-the Turkis and Parathions and other Non-Aryans were rooted our and forcibly removed. We thus find racial antagonism at work. The Indo-Aryan aristocrat was proud of his race and looked down upon these barbarians and malachas. Indo-Aryan States and rulers were conquered by the Guptas were dealt with leniently, But there was not leniency for non-Aryans.

Jawarhalal Nehru in his book Glimpses of World History says “Chandragupta’s son Samadugupta was an even more aggressive fighter than his father….the Kushans were pushed back across the Indus…Samadugupta’s son, Chandragupta II was also a warrior king, and he conquered Kathiwad and Gujrat, which had been under the rule of a Saka or Turki dynasty for a long time. He took the name Vikramaditya…..The Gupta period was a period of Hindu imperialism in India. There was a great revival of old Aryan culture and Sanskrit learning. The Hellenistic, or Greek and Mongolian elements in Indian life and culture which had been brought by the Greeks, Kushans and others were not encouraged, and were in fact deliberately superseded by laying stress on the Indo-Aryan traditions. Sanskrit was the official court language. But EVEN IN THOSE DAYS SANSKRIT WAS NOT THE COMMON LANGUAGE OF THE PEOPLE.
The spoken language was a form of Prakrit….Kalidasa belonged to this period ……………. Samadragupta changed the capital of his empire from Pataliputra (Peshawar) to Ayodhia. Perhaps he felt that Ayodhiya

Jawarhalal Nehru in his book Glimpses of World History says “The Gupta revival of Aryanism and Hinduism was naturally not very favorably inclined towards Buddhism. This was partly because this movement was aristocratic, with the Kashatriya chiefs backing it, and Buddhism had more democracy in it; partly because the Mahayana form of Buddhism was closely associated with the Kushans and other alien rulers of northern India….but Buddhism declined in India…Chandragupta the first was a contemporary of Constantine the great, the Roman Emperor who founded Constantinople. “

    4. The Buddha’s fight against Brahminism won him many enemies from among the Brahmins. They were not as greatly opposed to his philosophical teachings as they were to his message of universal brotherhood and equality for it directly challenged their hegemony and the scriptures that they had invented to legitimize this. To combat Buddhism and revive the tottering Brahminical hegemony, Brahminical revivalists resorted to a three-pronged strategy.

Firstly, they launched a campaign of hatred and persecution against the Buddhists. Then, they appropriated many of the finer aspects of Buddhism into their own system so as to win over the “lower” caste Buddhist masses

The final stage in this project to wipeout Buddhism was to propound and propagate the myth that the Buddha was merely another ‘incarnation’ (avatar) of the Hindu god Vishnu. Buddha was turned into just another of the countless deities of the Brahminical pantheon.

The Untouchables, that the ancestors of today’s Dalits were Buddhists who were reduced to the lowly status of ‘untouchables’ for not having accepted the supremacy of the Brahmins. They were kept apart from other people and were forced to live in ghettos of their own. Being treated worse that beasts of burden and forbidden to receive any education, these people gradually lost touch with Buddhism, but yet never fully reconciled themselves to the Brahminical order. Many of them later converted to Islam, Sikhism and Christianity in a quest for liberation from the Brahminical religion. contd......

    5. The Brahimns, who were once voracious beef-eaters, turned vegetarian, imitating the Buddhists in this regard. Popular devotion to the Buddha was sought to be replaced by devotion to Hindu gods such as Rama and Krishna. The existing version of the Mahabharata was written in the period in which the decline of Buddhism had already begun, and it was specially meant for the Shudras, most of whom were Buddhists, to attract them away from Buddhism. Brahminism, however, still prevented the Shudras from having access to the Vedas, and the Mahabharata was possibly written to placate the Buddhist Shudras and to compensate them for this discrimination.

The Mahabharata incorporated some of the humanistic elements of Buddhism to win over the Shudras, but, overall, played its role of bolstering the Brahminical hegemony rather well. Thus, Krishna, in the Gita, is made to say that a person ought not to violate the “divinely ordained” law of caste. Eklavya is made to slice off his thumb by Drona, who is finds it a gross violation of dharma that a mere tribal boy should excel the Kshatriya Arjun in archery

The various writer of the puranas, too, carried on this systematic campaign of hatred, slander and calumny against the Buddhists. The Brahannardiya Purana made it a principal sin for Brahmins to enter the house of a Buddhist even in times of great peril. The Vishnu Purana dubs the Buddha as Maha Moha or ‘the great seducer’. It further cautions against the “sin of conversing with Buddhists” and lays down that “those who merely talk to Buddhist ascetics shall be sent to hell.” contd.........

    6. In the Gaya Mahatmaya, the concluding section of the Vayu Purana, the town of Gaya is identified as Gaya Asura, a demon who had attained such holiness that all those who saw him or touched him went straight to heaven. Clearly, this ‘demon’ was none other the Buddha who preached a simple way for all, including the oppressed castes, to attain salvation. The Vayu Purana story goes on to add that Yama, the king of hell, grew jealous at this, possibly because less people were now entering his domains. He appealed to the gods to limit the powers of Asura Gaya. This the gods, led by Vishnu, were able to do by placing a massive stone on the “demon’s” head. This monstrous legend signified the ultimate capture of Budhdhism’s most holy centre by its most inveterate foes.

Kushinagar, also known as Harramba, was one of the most important Buddhist centres as the Buddha breathed his last there. The Brahmins, envious of the prosperity of this pilgrim town and in order to discourage people from going there, invented the absurd theory that one who dies in Harramba goes to hell, or is reborn as an ass, while he who dies in Kashi, the citadel of Brahminism, goes straight to heaven.

    7. In addition to vilifying the fair name of the Buddha, the Brahminical revivalists goaded Hindu kings to persecute and even slaughter innocent Buddhists. Sasanka, the Shaivite Brahmin king of Bengal, murdered the last Buddhist emperor Rajyavardhana, elder brother of Harshavardhana, in 605 AD and then marched on to Bodh Gaya where he destroyed the Bodhi tree under which the Buddha had attained enlightenment. He forcibly removed the Buddha’s image from the Bodh Vihara near the tree and installed one of Shiva in its place

Another such Hindu king was, Mihirakula, a Shaivite, who is said to have completely destroyed over 1500 Buddhist shrines. The Shaivite Toramana is said to have destroyed the Ghositarama Buddhist monastery at Kausambi.

    9. Dr. Mohammad Shahidullaha and Dr. Suniti Kumar Chatterjee discovered that Brahmanism was started to destroy Buddhism. Hindu politics pays respect to the Buddha as the “Vishnu’s 9th Avatar.” Hindu rulers did not convert to Buddhism but they convert the Buddha as the Hindu god and the sinister conspiracy was started to destroy Buddhists in India. Hindu and Brahmin politics could not tolerate at all as the separate Buddhist existence in India.

There are hundred of places in Keral, Bangladesh, Bihar, West Bengla and Uttar Pradesh having the names like Buddha vihar, (Dharma Thakur), palli (or Buddha Vihar in Kerala) either affixed or suffixed with them. In Kerala karungapalli, Karthikapalli, Pallickal, Pallipuram are some of the examples of these places. The term palli means a Budhist Vihara in Kerala. It should be noted that Kerala had 1, 200 years Buddhist tradition. Till recently schools in Kerala had been called as Ezhuthupalli or Pallikoodam. Our Christian and Muslim brothers use the term Palli to donate their place of worship in Kerala
They exterminated 1, 200 Buddhist tradition and transformed Kerala into a Brahmanical State. Original inhabitants of Kerala like the Ezhavas, Pulayas etc. were crushed under the yoke of cateism. Many Buddhist Temples or Viharas transformed into Hindu temples and the majority of the people were prevented from entering the temples under the pretext of tragedy of caste system. A number of the Buddha statues have been found at places like Ambalapuzha, karungaoalli, Pallickal, Bharanikkavu, Mavelikkara and Neelamperur. They are all in disfigured state.

A large number of Buddhist temples were usurped by the Fanatic Brahmins and were converted into Hindu temples where the poor Hindus and Untouchables, Srisailam of Karnataka and many others as they were originally the Buddhist temples

The Buddhist places were projected as the Hindu temples by writing puranas which were concocted myths or pseudo-history. Badrinath, Mathura, Ayodhya, Srinegeri, Buddhagaya, Saranath, Delhi, Nalanda, Gudiallam, Nagarjuna konda, Srisailam and Sabarimala (Lord Ayyappa) in Kerala are some of the striking examples of the Brahmanic usurpation of the Buddhist centres. At Nagarjunakonda, the Adi Sankara (8th century) of Kerala played a demon’s role in destroying the Buddhist statues and monuments. Longhurst who conducted excavations of Nagarjuna Konda has recorded this in his book Memoirs of Archaelogical Survey of India No. 54, The Buddhist Antiquites of Nagarjuna Konda (Delhi, 1938, page 6

In this way, Hindu scholars including Swami Vivekananda discovered that the temples of Lord Jagannath of Puri, Vithula of Pandharpur, Ayyappa of Kerala

Shashanka, the Shaivite Brahmin king of Bengal was manipulated by the Brahmins to become a ferocious oppressor of the Buddhists

Shashanka had also murdered the last Buddhist emperor Rajyavardhana, elder brother of Harshavardhana,
After the rule of Shashanka, the Pala kingdom was established in Bengal. Though the Palas of Bengal had been hospitable to Vaishnavism and Saivism, but nonetheless they were major supporters of Buddhism. However, when Bengal came under the rule of the Senas (1097-1223), Saivism was promulgated and Buddhism was neglected.

    12. Sonam Gupta, it seems you have bought wholesale into the neo Buddhist Dalit propaganda. That is a lot of info to dissect which I will get to soon. But I will just start with this: Buddha himself was never anti Brahmanical in that he was not leading a social revolution but he criticized Brahmin ritualism as insufficient and saw himself as a revivalist rather than creating a new religion. Brahmins never persecuted him . Indeed most of his followers were usually Brahmin or Kshatriya.

Kumarila Bhatta was mocked and ridiculed at Nalanda university which by then had become a bastion of Buddhist supremacists who had become anti Vedic. Clearly by then Buddhism had become a seperate religion altogether. Bhatta distaste for Buddhism was due to these incidents, he was no more fanatical than those Buddhists.

Then as now Buddhists werent always about peace and love , if you want proof checkout all the military dictatorships of South East Asia -Thailand, Burma and Sri Lanka. All have support of Buddhist monks. Same goes for Japan during WWII.

    13. @ JAM the number of low castes who converted to Buddhism or Islam is actually not much. However Buddhism had an appeal for elites and foreigners. Lower castes were quite accustomed to their rough and tumble non veg lifestyle for which Buddhism was a poor fit.
We can make the analogy with Islam . As you have stated that despite so many Muslim dynasties over 100s of years , Hinduism has survived. Similarly despite the powerful Buddhist and Jain empires of Maurya, Palas, Rashtrakutas not to mention extensive patronage to Buddhism by Vedic and Shaivite dynasties such as Cholas, Pallavas, Satavahanas etc, most lay people were least bothered about Buddhism and preferred their old religion.
The people who converted to Islam were usually pastoralists and nomads in the northwest (today Pakistan) and in East Bengal they were tribals who were new converts to Hinduism and the Mughals in general developed East Bengal a great deal by clearing forests and swamps and implementing irrigation. As a result Bengal was the most productive and richest province until Punjab overtook them in the same manner.
In other words ,its not low castes who were susceptible to Islam but those outside the caste system such as Dalits , tribals, nomads etc.

Sonam Gupta subscribes to neo Buddhist propaganda of cruel Brahmanic religions persecuting innocent Buddhists while leaving out the inconvenient details of how much Vedic and Shaivite dynasties supporting Buddhism so much so that a moulding took place in the form of Tantric Buddhism. Neither does she mention that Buddhists were shrinking violets when they were in power.

    14. Forgot to mention, during the late medieval/early modern era where the British started crawling their way in, the caste system became quite cruel and hence we see in Kerala where nearly 70% of the population converted to Islam and Christianity.

In AP, the %age of Christians is much higher than the nonsense figure of 5% or so. Same goes for TN.
In Bihar as well as Orissa, most of the Christians are either lower castes or tribals.
These two regions were ruled by Muslims(less so TN) but in Telangana atleast most of the Muslims are of foreign origin, very few converted. Same goes for Karnataka where a Kannada Muslim is almost an oxymoron.

    2. hindu puranas have evolved over the millennium Another symbolism in trinity story is "Brahma" represents culture of north-western india (Oxus river civilization to Indus river stretch), "Vishnu" represents culture of south and east part (east of Indus to Ganges and down south). Shiva sect originated in north of Himalaya and finally subdued or united people of other two cultures (story of Shiva sending Brahma and Vishnu to find start and end of Jyotilingam). Note that out of these three, there is only mention of Vishnu in vedas, that too as smaller gods. Another interesting symbol is flower on which Brahma sits. Check about "Brahm Kamal" (Saussurea obvallata) which is present only in northern hillside areas.

Their is another story of Shiva cutting one head of Brahma, leaving only four out of five. That head was facing north. Shiva also made bowl out of that skull (tribal custom which even mongols followed earlier). Inference would be Shaivite followers decimated one kingdom of Brahma culture which was in north.

Another story of Shiva drinking "vish" is again a metaphor for a drought and destruction. "Vish" is inferred as poison in current sanskrit, however, as per vedic sanskrit, it means "water" and in pashto (Afganistan) meaning is "tribe". Shiva drank "vish" meant water was gone and Shiva culture adopted the displaced tribe. Also, interesting part is Asura and Daitya words, depicted Ahura (Zorastrian god) and people of daitya river (most likely Oxus river). So, fight between Devtas and Asuras was nothing but a struggle between two cultures, Zorastrian/Persian and Indus. People suffered in between regions and found peace in north Himalaya or in Shiva.

Entire picture of human form of Shiva is full of symbolism. Ganges culture, though, decimated are treated with respect and put on head. Naga tribes take the neck and voice. Rudraksh are also part of Buddhism tradition. Moon represents moon clan (Yuezhi, also called Tushara or Thakore). Third eye is the only odd which does not match with any indian tradition or symbol. Only possible explanation can be greek influence. Note that Greeks ruled north western part for quite long time (Bactria). Greek mythology depicts third eye as special power of vision to see past and future. POINT BEING MANY MYTHS THAT WE NOW HEAR IS RESULT OF ANICENT HSITROY NOR A RELGIOUS ALLEGORY MANY ADDITION HAVE SINCE BEEN MADE INCLUDING the myth that the Buddha was merely another ‘incarnation’ (avatar) of the Hindu god Vishnu. Buddha was turned into just another of the countless deities of the Brahminical pantheon. And the famous Jagannatha temple at Puri in Orissa was also originally a Buddhist shrine.Hindu politics pays respect to the Buddha as the “Vishnu’s 9th Avatar.” Hindu rulers did not convert to Buddhism but they convert the Buddha as the Hindu

  8. Sonam Gupta,

Adi Shankara never "destroyed" Buddhism. Buddhism in many instances tried to destroy Hinduism (and till date, still do). Adi Shankara simply defended Hinduism from Buddhist onslaught down south (he was from Kalady in Kerala). And like JAM said above, Chaitanya Dev defended Bengal's Hindu culture from Buddhist onslaught. Since I'm from Tamil Nadu, I know pretty well how Jains and Buddhists tried to erase our Saivite/Vaishnavite cultures in their entirety. They even went as far as replacing Tamil with Pali and Prakrit in order to undermine Saivism and Vaishnavism. This was during the Kalabhra era (230 CE to 600 CE), the period of Tamil silence and darkness. Even today, take a look at Buddhist countries: Myanmar and Sri Lanka for instance. Talk about peace, while shredding entire populations to pieces - That is political Buddhism in a nutshell.

I'd suggest not buying into the neo Ambedkarist propaganda, since they're laced with hatred for anything Hindu while attempting to whitewash Islamic atrocities against Buddhists. In fact, even Ambedkar said that Islamic invaders destroyed Buddhist culture in India in its entirety. But why do neo Ambedkarists say "Jai Bhim, Jai Mim" today? Dr. Ambedkar equally opposed both Hinduism and Islam. Why do these neo Buddhist Dalits try to cover this up? We all know why. It's another story that they have no widespread support and will dissipate soon.

    Thanks.

    1. Like Rao sir said, not just Brahmins, pretty much everybody was eating all kinds of meet including beef. Buddhism still did exist. Islamic invaders destroyed Buddhism in its entirety. And no, Brahmins weren't involved. Brahmins (and to some extent, a few others) stepped in only to defend Hinduism from Buddhist/Jain onslaughts.

      Hindus don't celebrate Buddha because:
      1. Buddhism was not as worldly as Hinduism in the ancient past.
      2. Buddha was not a saint but a mere philosopher like Persia's Zarathustra, later elevated to the level of prophet (in the case of Zarathustra) and god (in the case of Buddha).
      3. Buddhists have a history of conducting widespread ethnic cleansing of Hindus. See Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Bhutan.
      4. Like you said, there's no Purana dedicated to him because he was neither an avatar of Vishnu nor a saint. He was a mere philosopher.

Buddhism, like Rao sir mentioned in this blog, does have Vedic influence (like Vajracchedikka mantra). However their contempt for Hindus and Hinduism knows no bounds. It could possibly because of Hindu idol worship and the fact that Hinduism is not a monolithic religion in the first place. At this point of time I don't know.

      Thanks.

JAM, YSV: Elst says that Buddha's Shakya clan was originally Iranian and that Budhha was tall and fair-complexioned. What are your views on this?

      Delete
    10. Wow there are a lot of conversations which I am not able to respond to as I am a bit busy .However will do so later. But for now I just want address this Buddhas as Iranian silliness

Apparently this fringe view becoming increasingly popular from my anecdotal evidence on history forums.
      The main reasons being

      1) The bad etymology of equating a Iranic speaking Saka with Sakya
      2) Buddha's appearance and similarity in some teachings with Zoroaster
      3) Cousin marriages which were forbidden by IA society but were ok with Iranian and Dravidians

Regarding 1) Koenraad Elst who has done sterling work combating bad etymologies should be ashamed in trying to form a connection between two words
As for tall and fair skinned. Depends on what you mean by fair skinned, I think he was described as golden complexioned which pretty much anyone who is not Rama and Krishna in the epics is described that way. And there is no shortage of tall people in India then or now. Heck most travellers describe many Indians to be quite tall from Megasthenes to all the Persiand and Italian observers in Vijayanagar era.

And cousin marriage while forbidden to lay folk would not be considered out of bounds for royalty . The royalty could get away with all sorts of behavior which others couldnt- then and now. Also the Shakyas were somewhat isolated due to geography and their relations with neighboring republics were not good and so one of the reasons for cousin marriage of Gautama Siddhartha that no proper bride from another kingdom could be acquired for him.

Ashoka All accounts agree that Ashoka’s early rule was brutal and unpopular, and that he was known as “Chandashoka” or Ashoka the CruelAshoka would invade Kalinga a few years later and, shocked by the death and destruction, would convert to Buddhism and become a pacifist.whereas we know from minor rock edicts that Asoka had converted to Buddhism more than two years earlier. Even Ashoka’s eulogists like Charles Allen agree that his conversion predated the Kalinga war. Moreover, he seems to have had links with Buddhists for a decade before his conversion. The evidence suggests that his conversion to Buddhism was more to do with the politics of succession than with any regret he felt for sufferings of war.

    12. It appears that Ashoka was using his inscriptions as a tool of political propaganda to counter his reputation for cruelty. The Ashokavadana clearly tells us how an enraged Ashoka had 18,000 Ajivikas in Bengal put to death in a single episode. This is the first known instance of large-scale religious persecution in Indian history and sadly, would not be the last.

    13. Supporters of Ashoka will claim that these acts of genocide are untrue and that they were inserted into the story by fundamentalist Buddhist writers in much later times he was not a successful administrator. In his later years, an increasingly unwell Ashoka watched his empire disintegrate from rebellion, internal family squabbles and fiscal stress. While he was still alive, the empire had probably lost some of the north-western territories that had been acquired from Seleucus. Within a few years of Ashoka’s death in 232BC, the Satvahanas had taken over most of the territories in southern India and Kalinga had seceded.

      LOL that was hilarious :D

Milin is suffering from certain preconceived notions(I am putting this in the most civilized way possible :) ) .Otherwise Milin would have understood that poetic compositions are not 100% historical, and neither should they be treated as such, since scholars who have scanned through the huge volume of puranic literature have pointed out completely contradicting claims on same events in different puranas. But not all of it is ofcourse fabricated, for example,I believe the broad outline of Ramayana was true, and probably Ramayana was a clash between two philosophies within Sanatan Dharma. But that doesnt mean all of Valmiki ramayana will be 100% historical.

      Delete
    2. Jam, you are just showing your own bias by selectively choosing what you like and ignoring the rest. If you want to reject some of the Ramayana, you would need some sort of basis for doing it. Saying that you would reject it simply because you don't like some of what is mentioned in it reveals your pre-conceived notions... As far as Puranas go with regards to Ramayana, they are not authentic sources as they were written several centuries after Ramayana and have their own societal biases based on time period they were written in. Get it? Or perhaps would you need a more lengthy explanation considering your intellectual bankruptcy? After all, we cannot expect too much from one who believes that Hanumana flew to Lanka in a hot air balloon and that Akbarnama, written by a contemporary of Akbar, is not an authentic source for Akbar's life... LOL.

    3. Quotes for Milin Patel to ponder over:
Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish.
      - Euripides

Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
      - Martin Luther King, Jr.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wise people so full of doubts.
      - Bertrand Russell

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.
      - Benjamin Franklin

Who knows himself a braggart, let him fear this, for it will come to pass that every braggart shall be found an ass.
      ― William Shakespeare

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”
      ― Albert Einstein

    6. Actually it describes you Sonam. You keep coming back even though you have nil knowledge of Ramayana. Don't kid yourself. Both me and you know that you have not read Ramayana. Then you go on to criticize my claims about Ramayana with no actual basis for your criticism... Your friend ysv rao is equally ignorant. He earlier said that a dying Ravana taught statecraft to Lakshmana in Valmiki Ramayana and that Rama abandoned Seetha in Yuddha Kanda (agnipariksha sequence) to please his subjects. As someone who has actually read the epic, these claims are quite hilarious... As far as this person hakunamatata500 is concerned, I barely know him so I will refrain from commenting about him... But it is clear that you, JAM and your ringmaster ysv rao really need to spend less time abusing and more time studying scriptures. Hopefully you take this criticism in a positive manner... :)

    1. Sonam,

Thanks for proving to me that you don't know how to read. I simply said that Hanumana had a sensual relationship with Rama. I never mentioned "gay" or "homosexual". That is your interpretation. He was clearly bisexual, as he was attracted to both genders... I never said Rama was feminine. I never said that Seetha and Anusuya had sex. At most, I just said that I found it fishy how Anusuya kept kissing Seetha when interacting with her in Ayodhya Kanda. I never came to a solid conclusion that Anusuya was a lesbian as I don't have solid evidence for that... For the case of Rama-Hanumana relationship, I did have solid evidence, which neither you nor your friends on this blog could refute. You could not explain how Hanumana was able to describe the texture of Rama's penis had he not felt it, or fantasized about it...

    6. Asura is a morally neutral term to a large degree though towards the end of the Vedic era it acquired a negative connatation. You then had Zoroaster who then twisted the Vedic religion to make Asuras into the good guys and then certainly Vedic people did not wish to agree with the mlecchas and solidified Asura as something bad.

Rakhasa was always bad. And contrary to Amar Chitra Katha depictions, they were very beautiful beings and thats how they ensnared people. One is considered a Rakshasa when one associates and adopts Rakshasas as their own even if he is not a Rakshasa himself.
Even before Ravana abducted Sita he did very morally questionable things such as scamming Shiva and Parvati into giving him Sri Lanka and stealing Kubera's treasure not to mention kidnapping Sachi.
These deeds earned him the respect of Rakshasas and hence he became one.
Where does he call himself Kshatriya. He is of Brahmin lineage either from Nepal or MP. Even now you have Kanyakubja Brahmins worshipping Ravana as their hero . Ironically Ram Mandir enthusiast Atul Bihari Vajpayee was a Kanyakubja haha.

      Delete
    7. Ysv rao,

Here he calls himself Kshatriya. He speaks to Indrajita, saying:

      न खल्वियम् मतिः श्रेष्ठा यत्त्वाम् सम्प्रेषयाम्यहम् |
      इयम् च राजधर्माणाम् क्षत्रियस्य मतिर्मता || ५-४८-१३

"This thought of my sending you is not indeed the best option. But, this decision is said to be according to the duties of a king and is the commendation of a kshatriya."

You are basing most of the above criticism of Ravana on Uttara Kanda, which is a later addition to the epic...

  16. I have said a lot about Milin Patel. Unfortunately he is a dishonest and shameless character so he keeps returning as for him any attention is good attention. Every time I think I should humor him or his nonsensical theories I come to regret it. No more of that.

OK from now on permanent ban on Milin Patel and his rubbish. No more second chances.

My request for other readers is to even stop discussing his pornographic opinions on Ramayana,Mahabharata or the Vedas and Puranas
There are some official versions of Ramayana, Mahabharata or the Vedas and commentaries which raise eyebrows. Such as you have Michael Witzel who says that Brahmins addes pornographic elements to the Vedas for their prurient interest. We can discuss whether or not that is true as it is Michael Witzel not some two bit disgusting attention whore like Milin Patel.

So stop discussing Patel's "pearls of wisdom" and lets simply ostracize him
Milin Patel- I am not interesting in your bitching and whining about me censoring you and your comical alter ego - the other Patel whatever his name is , claiming I am cowardly.
With disgusting and dishonest people like you I am willing to use Krishnaneeti and Chanakyaneeti as you only understand this language.
Make no mistake you are unwelcome here and all your posts will be deleted. I am not interested in your conditional surrender that you wont return unless your name is mentioned. I will choose to do as I wish. As it now stands your name has become a laughing stock and earned itself as a term of derision and contempt ala Vadakayil and we will use it in that manner whether you like it or not. Any comment from you will be deleted. If you wish to get carpal tunnel syndrome doing the same and repeating the deleted comments. The spam block will take care of you for me.

    1. @Rohit,

I told ysv rao that I would not be commenting again. But I just wanted to comment to clarify your misconception. I am not lonely, nor am I looking for friendship from a self-centered person like ysv rao. My opinions are based on evidence and if you or anyone find it weird, I simply don't care. I will not change my opinion to please you, or ysv rao or anyone else. As far as my ego is concerned... Ysv rao and his friends never provided an adequate explanation for their opinion. They simply mocked the points I made. That is not a proper refutal of my points. There is no reason to change my beliefs simply because others don't like what I said. If valid points were made, then I could possibly consider. Lastly, I am not contrarian for appearing smart. LOL. I simply don't agree with the mainstream view on some topics. Even ysv rao shows such behavior when he tries to interpret mahabharatha through the lens of tantra, even though mahabharatha gives no basis for such interpretation. It just shows his immaturity if he cannot handle opposing views...

If you wish to discuss about Mahabharatha/Ramayana you are free to come to my blog. But I will not be commenting again on ysv rao's blog.

    1. sonam, not sure if it's the right place to post but saw you once quoting zakir naik's verses on vedas somewhere , https://www.quora.com/profile/Kiron-Krishnan-1 , this guy is interesting (dude speaks 7 languages while sanskrit, malyalam and tamil being his mother tongues lol), he has tried interpreting vedas while also comparing them with various sources . I didn't know that vedic sanskrit was different from classical sanskrit.
A good example of mis-translation and then correction can be seen here
      https://kironrigveda.quora.com/Killing-infidels-in-Vedas

I am wondering now that whether people quote islam out of context now for creating divides because i am seeing it could very easily be done with the vedas

      Delete
    2. tim i am not expert on Vedas but i will give opinion on it vedas according
but puranic myth was split into 4 parts by vysa , but mainstream Brahmans doesn't consider atharva veda as part of 4 vedas since it has black magic
incantations. old Sanskrit does differ from new one in many ways just like old Malayalam, Telugu etc differs

regarding Islam Quran was a revelation to Muhammad he didn't write it down it was passed on orally but some guy named al tabri had complied it
i can go into further detail but it will lengthy one
COMING TO YOUR POINT NO THEY ARE NOT QUOTING OUT OF CONTEXT REGARDING ISLAM
ITS NOT RELIGION OF PEACE , SPLIT IN ISLAM IS DUE TO DISAGREEMENT IN REGARDS TO SUCCESSOR MUHAMMAD Ali was the prophet's cousin and son-in-law, not grandson. It is a matter of dispute; all Muslims do not agree that he died without appointing a successor it now split into many sects including shia sunni wahab etc

      Delete
    3. "regarding Islam Quran was a revelation to Muhammad he didn't write it down it was passed on orally" sounds similar to the vedas, afaik, only the certain traditional nambudiris kept it alive. I wonder how the English/East india got their translations.

On the other note, did Adi shankaracharya really killed buddhism in india lol ?

      Delete
    4. tim DRAKE i can only guess the namboodri angle to what captain says in his blogs Islam mirrors almost same philosophy like advaita , advaita is monotheism philosophy they believe in one god and all other gods like rama etc are the form of ultimate god, so Islam believe in Allah he doesn't have any form of idol worship
case of Hindu smartha Brahmans adi shanakra is kind of like what prophet Mohammad was to Islam, CAPTAINS CASE HE HAS HIS OWN HIDDEN AGENDA HE WANTS TO MAKE KERALA INTO CENTER OF ORIGIN FOR ISLAM JUDAISM ETC , HE IS A LUNATIC .IF WE LOOK CLOSELY NAMMBDORID WERE ACTUALLY INITIATED BY PARASHURAMA KERALA DOESN'T HAVE BRAHAMNIC CULTURE PRE NAMDBOODRIS ALL WERE TRIBAL PEOPLE LIKE THIYYAS EZHAVAS ETC SO GOT INITIATED IN TO VEDAS

ON OTHER QUESTION I WILL SAY MAY BE BUT BHAKTI MOVEMENT MAY HAVE BEEN GREAT CAUSE FOR BUDDHISM DECLINE

      Delete
    5. Oh sorry, i should have explained it properly . I meant nambudiris kept the oral tradition of vedas alive (until most likely ,the East india company penned it down ) just the way you are talking about islam being an oral tradition .

"but mainstream Brahmans doesn't consider atharva veda as part of 4 vedas since it has black magic
      incantations" -> https://www.quora.com/What-was-India-like-in-Vedic-times?share=1
I will quote kiron's answer who unlike other people don't need english translation to understand vedic hymns (the dude is a language genuis considering he is very young). I am quoting his words here
"atharvaveda saw the development of medicinal science and mainstream voices of “doctor poets”. Moreover, the mantras were also used as kind of placebos to assist the healing. Most of them mention medicines. Contrary to the popular belief, Atharvaveda is not about spells or incantations. They are super philosophical treatises, sometimes talking in a mystic sense. Actually the “Brahmanas” are the ones who (mis)use the mantras for “spells” and “incantations”."
