"Graveyard of empires" talk curiously muted this time around
The thing about a technocratic administrative state masquerading as a democracy is that most human beings are unpredictable often run off the chess board and do their own thing. Hence the senile Biden who was dragged to the White House by a cabal of intelligence, military, Big Tech ,media ,academia aided by the Justice Department and the supreme court stunned the military and intelligence brass when he decided to pull out regardless of the weaponry, money and even citizens left behind. It was always going to be messy and to be sure there were going to be tragic stories of once liberated women now relegated behind the burqa and beaten for any transgression. But then again the U.S military itself is hardly a crusader of Western values - it fired or demoted soldiers who complained about the Afghan army buggering young boys.
Stanley McChrystal who was assigned to Afghanistan in 2010 from his more impressive tenure at Iraq was completely out of his element . One wonders if the cloistered environment that the U.S military creates in neo colonial lite empires mirrors that of its creators- Ivy League ivory tower paper pushers who consider the idea of accountability of their terrible ideas distasteful. The Afghan President Ashraf Ghani was a professor at John Hopkins and was highly regarded in various think tanks . Considering his previous non performance in all this chaos, I hope Indians think very carefully before they state that they want this or that IITian, IIM, Stanford or Harvard graduate to head the nation or even their municipality. In particular I am referring to the useless son of Chandrababu Naidu at one extreme and a competent bureucrat at the other like Raghuram Rajan who still has no business running a country.
Indeed the weird McKinsey managerial approach to Afghanistan is almost comical. As Matt Stoller eloquently stated in his recent substack article. "Death by Powerpoint" was a sardonic phrase used by soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan around 2005-2010. War was reduced to presentations about anthropology, social justice and conflict resolution . McKinsey and other management consultants should have been taken to the cleaners when Rajat Gupta at its helm was found guilty of insider trading along with Raj Rajaratnam of the Galleon Fund. Leave aside how ineptly they tried to play it off on the phone (recording by the FBI available online) thinking they could fool anyone listening in. It is rather comical. Management consultants in general are the most ridiculous and fraudulent organizations as they have a terrible track record , no accountability but great PR. Benjamin Netanyahu is another of these unholy products under whom the Mossad saw failure after failure until it degraded into an organization known for child porn stings (Epstein),
Child sexual abuse of course brings us back to Afghanistan, not to mention elites who are wild about it for whatever terrifying reason (Twitter and Apple on one hand and the British Royal family on the other for instance refuse to boot pedophiles in their midst). Afghanistan had more contractors than soldiers most likely and they are likely over represented among those left behind because it exposes the sham of this entire 20 year project. It is rather curious that there are no videos of their relatives and loved ones pleading for their release. To say that the Afghan national army was cowardly , impotent and unmotivated is being too kind. Here we see the bravery and ferocity of Pushtuns fiddle faddle come crashing down. Quite literally as they fall from a departing plane clinging on for dear life rather than stand and fight.
No one here was quite impressed with any Afghan fighting ability. The Taliban notoriously abandoned their posts in 2001 and escaped by dressing up as women.The Taliban itself had not inflicted any casualties for American forces for 18 months as they decided that discretion was the better part of valor
What may be counter intuitive about this situation is there is a victor here- the American people who saw their own corrupt military and intelligence establishment and media(who are really PR agents for the deep state) suffer a well deserved humiliation and finally do some well needed nation building at home. Americans were already rather jaded with their military propaganda as the nation collectively groaned in 2013 when Obama planned an invasion of Syria.
As for the tanks,weapons,humvees and aircraft left behind. Many of those with complex components are simply inoperable as the contractors stripped them before they fled town. The Taliban while reveling in (poorly conducted) military parades now will have to do with damaged equipment, lack of parts and ammunition in less than a year. As these are not built for a ragtag guerilla militia but a professional ,educated army. Indeed this has been a problem not just with supplying foreign armies but even Marines in Okinawa for instance were unable to train effectively as the contractors ensure , as Apple does, that they are unable to fix their machinery and there is deliberate planned obsolescence. Everything in American society from finance to military to business or the education is geared towards quick fixes and short term gains with no concern for the long term. There are no victors here. It rather reminds me of another bankrupt empire departing rather chaotically around 1947 leaving behind a human tragedy in their wake even as those were liberated didnt do much fighting but had it freedom thrust upon them. But the bigger bad guy lost- the deep state has egg on its face and cant talk its way of this humiliation.
They might as well have taken the San Francisco approach and it would have been less humiliating and expensive

The Taliban are brutal. Could it be that they did not want to expose their relatives and make them easy target practice for the Talibani savages?
They have gone silent now because the Taliban are in total control and from their PoV it is better to stay low and avoid trouble. Also the Taliban might be imposing Internet restrictions or mismanaging Internet service companies there.
5. Apart from being cowardly, the Afghan army had a lot of corruption too. Unbelievable levels of corruption where generals made money through ghost soldiers (soldiers who existed on paper but not in reality). And they did not even put up a fight. They meekly surrendered to the Taliban who themselves ran away without a fight when the US invaded Afghanistan back in 2001.
6. As for the weapons that were stripped by US contractors before leaving, do you not think that could be one of the reasons the Afghan army itself fell? They were unable to utilize barebone military hardware without its supporting components.
Contrast that with the USSR-backed state led by Mohammed Najibullah that stood its ground and fought the Mujahideen even after the USSR collapsed. The writing was on the wall and his govt fell in 1992 but he sure as hell put up a spirited fight against the terrorists who would later become the Taliban and Al Qaeda.
What makes Russia (and what made the erstwhile USSR) so effective at nation-building that their client states do not collapse so easily in the face of challenges while the US-allied or US-created governments collapse very soon and evaporate into thin air?

India did not join RCEP which could have helped the country. Even if not officially courting Chinese investments, India could have sought some kind of cooperation with BRI. That would have been a better deal for India. Best of both worlds (USA and China).

Just start by writing anything just to fill the blank page and screen and come back to fix it later. There is no such thing as a perfect title/first word/ or sentence. You are not an author in the medieval or ancient era , there is no shortage of writing medium which was a concern back then.

ok that maybe ideal for an exam. but that does not work neccesarily for the creative process. Writing and thinking are often a symbiotic relationship with one feeding the other so organizing thoughts in a sequence doesnt do much for generating fresh ideas.
If you wish you can com e back and rearrange them in a somewhat sequential manner.
If you write something you are satisfied , sometimes over time that piece will beging to annoy you. Thats because it is waiting to be improved.
I dont know anything about Civil Service exam in particular so I cant help there

Arabs generally lack discipline and dont really perform well in teams . Hence they may do better in individual events but not a whole lot.

Re Indians- I think it was Vijay Amritraj who mentioned that Indian kids were more likely to collapse from training than any other. But then as now in general . The problem is not so much with genetics as with diet and lifestyle.
I remember playing football on the terrace with my friends in Hyderabad, one of the most amazing players I have seen was this telugu Muslim guy who was Pele personified. No one was sending guys like him to be trained as he could not afford it. Diet is a big problem all across India, all our food is loaded is carbs and sugars with relatively little protein even as we lead a very sedentary lifestyle.
In Dubai, Toronto, Seattle or whatever other major cosmopolitan city , if within an office complex there are people waiting for an elevator and their destination is on the 5th floor or so , Americans, Canadians, British, Africans etc will glad take the stairs but Indians will wait even if their office is on the first floor. There is this mentality that physical exertion is for common people. We then barely provide any funds to common people to train.And then we cry about our poor performance at sports events. Hahaha this is Indian mentality for you.
I think in general Indians dont really get that "swole" . Anyway large muscles generally comes with juicing even in Western countries. If you look at Western bodybuilders from 50 years ago they dont look that different from their Indian counterparts. Check out the pics of soldiers from WWII , they all look quite ordinary.
