Indian patriots and the Cargo Cult mentality

"In the first half of the 20th century, the indigenous population of Melanesia looked on as cargo planes landed on their islands weighed down with incredible payloads. Even though the islanders had no idea how these goods were manufactured in the West, they began imitating these artifacts. They made radios from wood, airplanes from straw, and landing strips out of sand — but without getting the same effects. Hence the metaphor of the “cargo cult.” Yet we should refrain from being condescending toward the Melanesians: when we set up agile processes, when we think that Lean Startup and Scrum are methods that will help us do things faster and more cheaply, we’re hardly any better."

Even developed western nations are not immune to the cargo cult syndrome- that if you superficially apply the processes of a successful organization or country to yourself , you will achieve the same success. A couple of months I was watching a documentary on YouTube about the pound sterling collapse in the early 90s. The first domino to fall was the high interest rate decided by the Bank of England because they believed since Germany(West Germany at the time) was prosperous and successful due to its high interest rates. I howled in laughter at this childish thinking. I was utterly amazed that all these people with fancy degrees with Cambridge, Oxford, LSE could have such a reductionist mindset to the economy. But that is the fallacy of expertise. Just as those with advanced degrees in theoretical physics from say MIT are unable to tie their own shoes without support, similarly one dimensional are unable to process any outside information.

This brings me to our patriots-specifically their mania for statues. A couple of years back I saw some comical emails that Raj Rathee (I watch Abhijit Iyer Mitra too ,so please relax patriots)  read out on his program. The topic at hand was a statue of Shivaji which already had considerable delays and cost over runs. The person in favor of the statue pointed out that since the Statue of Liberty was built , America had become a super power therefore it was a Shivaji statue of similar magnitude would lead to a similar fate for India.

I ask you , how this is thought process any different from that of the Melanesian islanders who thought they were making functional electronic items out of straw and wood assuming .

The more we delve into contemporary human psychology we realize that most people despite their familiarity and usage of technology are not really "modern" at all.  When water taps would run out in many parts of India about 70 years ago, people would start praying to the taps hoping the water would return.

Meanwhile the current government buys weapons in the assumption that it would become a military superpower....

Exactly what I have been saying for quite some time now. China has gone to Electromagnetic warfare, AI-enabled cyber warfare and space warfare. China's informationized and intelligentized warfare has rendered Chinese airspace UNINVADABLE. Meanwhile, India does not have such long vision.

Building statues will help make India the Vishwa Guru as much as buying a fancy car on debt would make a person rich.

    1. Oh, and fuck China. Thanks to their banning cryptocurrencies, the cryptocurrency market lost nearly $1 trillion in value and has been on the red for the past 2 days. It continues today. It is total mayhem through and through.

Bitcoin (BTC) peaked at $65,000, now it is $38,200.
Ethereum (ETH) peaked at $4,300, now it is $2,433.
EOS peaked at $14, now it is $6.50.
Litecoin (LTC) and ZCash (ZEC) peaked at nearly $500, now they are $190 and $150 respectively.
Monero (XMR) peaked at over $450, now it is $215.
Aave (AAVE) peaked at over $520, now it is $405.

Luckily I pulled out all my money from there. Although I did not hold Bitcoin, Ethereum or Dogecoin, it was still bad enough. EOS (which I held) went back to where it was early last month and sank even lower than that. Only Polygon Matic has not witnessed a complete collapse yet. But the bloodbath forced me to completely sell off all my holdings and halt all cryptocurrency trading for the time being.

I am still watching the market and eyeing Litecoin (LTC). It has fallen to a reasonable price now. I will keep an eye on it for some time before swooping in and purchasing LTC. Even ZCash (ZEC) is not as high as it used to be but I will wait for some time.

While the cryptocurrency market looks promising, its volatility is its Achilles' heel. One tweet or statement by Elon Musk had a crippling effect on Bitcoin. China's ban on cryptocurrency trading ensured a total bloodbath.

In all honesty, gold and silver are far more stable and reliable.

      Any idea on this topic?

As usual a cutting edge post and good makeover of Ur blog 🙏😊 wonder what inspired u behind this new blog header ,but it sounds raw and strong :)

Every nation has its own cultural complexities . One cannot apply to the other. In the past I was a staunch supporter of constitutional federalism for example ,but of late as I see the nation going downhill, and the general lack of discipline in us Indians ,I feel we need a minimal singular govt for now. We have far too much of govt in our public life . Anyway whether I am right or wrong ,the point is that things and structures and systems can't be imported blindly without organic assimilation.

Nowadays I feel ,India is heading for a kind of economic collapse ,in the sense that we are nurturing a huge population with not so adequate avenues for flourishing.

Btw recalled just now ,back when Modi govt was on spree to hire foreign trained economists like raghuram Rajan into into NITI ayog and such advisory bodies ,I had debated against this in an educational forum online.all participants there simply kept ridiculing me or speaking against me ,their generalised lines of logic being that MIT and Harvard and Stanford produce world class economists who would be a boon for India. But my point was that Modi govt should choose Indian economic analysts who preferably have worked with Indian industrial and agri ecosystem. I wished to convey that when it comes to economic policy making, mostly Harvard or Stanford PhD won't help ,it requires synchronization with ground realities which only Indian economists could provide . Today I do stand validated I guess ,seeing the output of world class panelists of niti ayog and pm advisory group 😄 the issue is the same as bank of England ,we are hoping for solutions from abroad models ,while in reality all we need is more attunement to the Indian reality .

    3. Good to see you back JAM!

"In the past I was a staunch supporter of constitutional federalism for example ,but of late as I see the nation going downhill, and the general lack of discipline in us Indians ,I feel we need a minimal singular govt for now."

Sorry mate, I cannot agree with you on this because:
      1. India is very much manageable but the central govt does not know how to do it.
      2. The central govt in India has more power than ever. Through farm laws, the new license plate rule, NEET, New Education Policy, Environmental Impact Assessment, One Nation One Ration Card, etc., federalism has been considerably eroded and state govts have been reduced to literal municipalities now.
      3. India's economy will do great with advice from foreign-trained economists, however reckless moves like demonetization, GST (which has become considerably more draconian), etc., were derailing and the central govt is doing nothing to change it. No one advised Modi to demonetize Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 but he did.

India's economy is falling because of Covid but also because of the central govt. I do not blame Modi for 2020 because there was little he could do. But instead of vaccinating people en masse, he was engaging in vaccine maitri exporting everything overseas and even boasting about it. Not to mention encouraging huge crowds even as cases were rising again, this time exponentially. The sad effects are there for all to see. Now India wants to vaccinate its own citizens and has completely defaulted on all its foreign obligations. This will hurt our credibility a lot. 2021 is literally the central govt's own making.

India's economy can be managed by liquidating RBI and replacing it with a currency board backed by gold, like the one you have in Bulgaria.

Also if India cannot be managed federally, there is just no way it can be managed from New Delhi.

    4. Sorry to respond to this so late.. but here we go

When i was younger and naive I was amazed that Amartya Sen was feted by many world economists for his abilities. This puzzled me as under his tenure India remained a crippling poor country. Later I realized that a prosperity of an economy is secondary to what many economists consider the barometer of a successful economist. It is how often his policies for centralization and monentary tinkering that earns the respect of economists even if it devastates the country's economic and social fabric. I realized then that most sociologists, economists, ethicists ,criminologists, military strategists are rather sociopathic as their incentives for success are completely at odds with what a normal society needs.

I generally dont trust any economists who never worked in the private sector or have examined the ground realities from the point of view of a consumer or investor. Most of these guys simply jump from one international government organization (IMF) to a national one (U.S, Indian , U.K government portfolio) or academia (Harvard, Yale , Oxbridge nexus) leaving behind a trail of destruction in their wake.

I honestly expected the son of the soil Modi to have a strong grasp on economic matters since he fulfills all the neccesary criteria. But he is just another tool of the Ambani crowd (crony capitalism) on one hand and RSS (Indira Gandhi socialism). This unholy amalgam is what we have since 2014.

    5. I completely agree with you on this one. I do not trust experts except in the field of science, math, healthcare and engineering. Everyone else is just...unreliable.

    1. Yashasvī Pratāp in his twiiter mentions Savarkar planted the seeds of many problems like proposal of a separate Sikh state ~40 years before it actually materialized into absolute chaos in Punjab in the name of Khalistan. https://twitter.com/yashasvipratap/status/1419272914315087874

    2. my point being history as we know today that been taught in academia is a fantasy story , reality is something that many hindus refuse to accept contray to evidence hindu king used Islamic invaders to defeat another powerful Hindu king like jai chand did against prthivirarj chavahan
then marthas used British against tipu etc ,many right wing Hindus fantasize of returning to monarchy want 10th century like kings rule

    3. they forget that one of remarkable feature of modern democracy is freedom of speech if monarchy returns all social media privileges will be banned anyone criticizing monarchy will be tried in kangaroo court
anyways these bootlickers have propped up subaltern hindutava to mask their incompetence and policy making electoral gains etc

    4. I dont know what Yashavi Pratap is smoking. Savarkar was only moderately influential at the time of independence. His views really didnt carry much weight as Pratap assumes.
Anyhow the language was very ambigous and seemed to hint at a Sikh state within India rather than a separate country.
I doubt he came with that on his own. Sikhs , to the frustration of Haryanvis and Himachalis even today, are an expansionist lot who believe a lot of North Indian states should be in their control.

    5. RSS never bothered about figting the British ...until around 1946 since they saw which way the wind was blowing. That said I cant say they were an inherently pro Raj organization.
